Preparations are currently underway for the upcoming TCR Eastern Europe season, which is set to begin at the end of April 2024. Exciting news and changes await both competitors and fans.
The calendar will once again consist of six events, with the addition of two new circuits. The brand new Balaton Park in Hungary will kick off the season in April, featuring a fully packed weekend of TCR cars. The TCR Eastern Europe series will be joined by the new TCR European Endurance series.
The second round of the TCR Eastern Europe will take place at Red Bull Ring in May, followed by the Slovakia Ring with the European Truck championship. The fourth round will be hosted by Autodrom Most, with the championship then moving to Automotodrom Brno in September. This will be another action-packed TCR event, featuring not only TCR Eastern Europe, but also races of the TCR Europe. The final round of the season will be held at the fast Salzburgring, which is another exciting addition to the calendar. TCR Eastern Europe will be accompanied by F4 CEZ series and in most cases also with ESET Cup, Clio Cup and Twingo Cup.
As the TCR concept celebrates nearly ten years since its launch, there are still hundreds of first-generation cars competing in various championships, including TCR Eastern Europe. To address this, the WSC Group has established the TCR Gen I group specifically for the first generation of TCR cars. Competitors in the Gen I category will naturally be classified in the overall results, but they will also have their own separate classification and Balance of Performance. Additionally, drivers will have the opportunity to earn points for the TCR World Ranking Final.
The champion of the TCR Eastern Europe also will receive the Kumho tires voucher and starting money for the following season of TCR Europe.
Significant changes have been made to the Balance of Performance system. The previous method of adding weight based on qualifying results has been discarded, and instead, weight distribution will be based on the current points standings, taking into account the total of points scored by each driver in each racing weekend according to the following scale: 1st – 40kg; 2nd – 30kg; 3rd – 30kg; 4th – 20kg; 5th – 10kg; from 6th onwards – 0kg
Another news is that two drivers will be allowed in one car during the weekend. It means that one driver can take part in the Race 1 and another drive can participate in Race 2. Also the qualifying session will be shortened from 25 minutes to 20 minutes, while the practice session will be extended by an additional five minutes, increasing from 25 to 30 minutes.
TCR Eastern Europe also opens specific classification under the name Rookie Rocket Cup. The Cup is an opportunity for rookies in the series. Also anyone who is slower than 102 % of the winner, will be counted for the Rookie Rocket Cup and therefore has a chance to achieve a podium finish in a separate classification.
