Jáchym Galáš finished on the podium in the opening round of the eSports WTCR as he finished 3rd in Split 3.
Due to the current situation, the WTCR series has started its own esports championship. The opening round of the season took place at Hungaroring on Monday. There was supposed to be also one driver from our championship as last year’s 2nd best driver Jáchym Galáš qualified 83rd and made it to Split 4. But in the end, there were two drivers from our series.
As many qualified drivers decided not to race, there were some last-minute changes to the entry list and Galáš was moved up to Split 3. But that also put Michal Makeš on the grid, despite he originally finished on 100th place, 8 places behind the last qualifying spot.
And both drivers definitely had a good run, especially Galáš. The Czech driver had already a good qualifying, as he took Honda Civic car of ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team to the 2nd place. Then in the race, he lost one place, but that was still good enough for a podium as he finished in 3rd position. Makeš then crossed the finish line just outside of the TOP 10, as he took 11th place after starting from 13th position in a Cupra car of PWR Racing.
For the 2nd race, the starting grid was based on the previous race with a reverse grid for the TOP 10. That put Galáš on the 8th position, while Makeš started from 11th place. But this time it was the latter, who could celebrate some success as the made it to the TOP 10 and finished in 9th place, while Galáš made it to the end in 10th position.
The eSports WTCR series continues on April 20 with a race at Slovakia Ring. Both Galáš and Makeš will be back and they want to try to qualify again. The qualifying itself takes place from March 31 until April 14.
