Dušan Borkovič scored the victory in the first race of the season at Grobnik Circuit. The reigning champion Milovan Vesnič finished second and Maťo Konopka was third.
In Saturday qualifying, Dušan Borkovič was the best. The experienced Serbian, who celebrated also a title of the European champion in the past, set the fastest time and took the pole position for Race 1.
And he could celebrate also in the first race of the season. He kept the first place from start to finish and achieved the victory right during his debut in TCR Eastern Europe. He wasn´t stopped even by the safety car, which was deployed to the track after the incident between Szymon Jablonski and Gábor Kismarty-Lechner in the opening meters.
We saw two Serbian drivers on the podium, because the last year champion Milovan Vesnič finished Race 1 on the second place after he passed Maťo Konopka already during Lap 1. The Slovakian rookie from ARC Bratislava team had to settle with the third place in the final results.
Bence Boldizs finished fourth, the last year vice-champion Jáchym Galáš fifth and he was the best junior at the same time, Igor Stefanovski sixth, Dušan Kouřil Jr. seventh, Michal Makeš eighth, Nemanja Milovanovič ninth and Lukasz Stolarczyk took one point for the tenth place.
It wasn´t only Gábor Kismarty-Lechner and Szymon Jablonski who didn´t finish. Petr Čížek and Sebastian Kolakowski also didn´t see the chequered flag. While the Czech driver retired after he drove his brand new Cupra Leon Competición TCR car off the track, Kolakowski was stopped by the technical issues.
Race 2 starts today at 15.15.
