Gábor Kismarty-Lechner competed in two races of 2020 TCR Eastern Europe season. What does he think about TCR Eastern Europe? Will he return to TCR Eastern Europe this year? He spoke about that and also about much more in our interview.
You made your debut season in TCR Eastern Europe last year. You competed in the first two rounds in Grobnik and at Slovakiaring. You finished 18th with 9 points in championship. Your best result was 6th place from Race 2 at Slovakiaring. How were you happy with 2020 TCR Eastern Europe season?
I’m definitely not happy with the results. We used these events as a test for FIA WTCR season and I was very unlucky. In Grobnik, I had two crashes in the two races, so I was not able to finish the races. At Slovakiaring, I made a mistake during start procedure of Race 1 and the car shuted down. I needed to restart the system and started behind the rest of the field. I was able to recover and I made more than ten overtakes. So, finally, I enjoyed it. But in terms of results, it was not enough. In the second race, I had a good start. But somebody again hit me in the first corner and I was again at the back of the field. But I was finally able to move from the last position to sixth.
Your teammate was Bence Boldizs. He also raced in the first two rounds. He collected 46 points and finished 7th in the championship. How was the cooperation with him?
I have a very good relationship with Bence. We helped each other during the full season, in FIA WTCR too. He is a young and very talented driver and he has a nice future at touring cars scene.
What are your racing plans for 2021 season? Do you plan more TCR Eastern Europe starts for this year, for example?
My programme for 2021 season is still not decided. There are some nice projects, but we need to analyse our possibilities. What is for sure that I will continue with Zengő Motorsport.

If you appear in TCR Eastern Europe, what will be your ambitions?
For sure, I would fight for some podium results, if I will do some races.
If you race in TCR Eastern Europe, is it possible we will see you with Cupra Leon Competición TCR car? You raced with this car in FIA WTCR last year…
It is also a question mark. There is a bigger chance to use the old car than the new.
What do you think about TCR Eastern Europe championship?
I think TCR Eastern Europe made a very good job in the last two years. It is one of the most popular TCR series in Europe.
Why should the fans watch 2021 TCR Eastern Europe season according to you?
They can see some great fights in TCR Eastern Europe and this is real touring car racing. It is also much more closer to the fans, so they can meet with the drivers much more easier than in FIA WTCR, for example.
