Sebastian Steibel had a difficult weekend at Slovakiaring. The German driver lost third place in the overall championship standings and now is fifth before last round at Automotodrom Brno. His goal for final round is to achieve his first victory and to return on thid place in the championship.
You had a bad luck at Slovakiaring and you lost third position in the championship standings. You dropped to 5th place. So what are your impressions from the weekend?
In qualifying, we had troubles with oversteering and I can’t do a perfect lap. It´s a pity that I lost third place overall but I will fight to get it back.
Both races of the weekend were complicated for you. In Race 1, your race was compromised by collision with Bartosz Groszek during opening lap. You went off the track and lost second place. In the end, you finished ninth. What are your opinion on the collision?
In my opinion, it was a racing incident. Sadly, I went off the track and my race was ruined. After the crash, my geometry on the car was damaged so I can’t push again.
But Race 2 wasn´t ideal for you as well. You jumped the start and because of that, you got a penalty of ten seconds and lost your first victory. You dropped to fifth place after penalty. So can you describe what exactly did happen at the start to you?
It´s not a long story. The lights turned on red for a long time and I released the clutch a little bit much. At this time, I already thought that I would get a penalty but I pushed forward for a big gap. Unfortunately, after the crash of Knego and the red flag, the gap was at zero. I hope Žarko is ok and we will see him in Brno.
How it feels when you cross the line as first and you lose the victory after that?
On one hand, I was lucky because I know that I can win a race. But on the other hand, of course, I´m unhappy that I got the penalty of ten seconds and dropped down to fifth. In Race 2, my performance was perfect, so if we had a normal race time, maybe i could extend the lead.
What are your ambitions for the final round at Automotodrom Brno?
In Brno, I will do a perfect qualifying and I will try to achieve victory again.
