Petr Fulín is going to expand the starting field in TCR Eastern Europe’s season finale at Most. The experienced racer and team owner of Fullinrace Academy can fundamentally influence the results of both races.
The Fullinrace Academy team is preparing two cars for Petr Čížek and Carol Wittke this season. However, after an accident at Red Bull Ring and also for personal reasons, Wittke hasn’t started in the remaining races. The second car has been missing in the events until now, when it will be driven by Petr Fulín.
“Of course, I’d rather have Carol racing, but this is a logical outcome,” says Fulín, going on to reveal the backstory of his one-off return: “We had to repair the car after Red Bull Ring, but the Spanish supplier promised the spare parts for our gearbox in September or October. So we tried to piece it together from parts that had been rebuilt in the past. We did some tests at Slovakia Ring during the free practices which were part of the TCR Eastern Europe race weekend. There were some issues with the differential, but we figured it out.”
Fulín has achieved many successes in touring car racing and will be one of the most experienced drivers on the field. He has always been fast, but he tries to downplay his favourite role at Most: “First, I want a car that works perfectly with no issues. I would like to enjoy a weekend with nice weather and invite some guests. About the results, although I’m a racer, I know the guys have been racing for a whole season and I haven’t raced in almost a year. However, I would like to be a worthy opponent,” explained Fulín, who completed for the last time almost one year ago in WTCR, coincidentally at Most.
He will also watch Petr Čížek’s performance during the weekend. Čížek has a mathematical chance to win the title. “It’s a mathematical chance, but if Semerád and Groszek crash in the first race and aren’t able to fix their cars, that chance would become serious. So Petr’s third place in the standings is great. He is a fast driver and I really liked his first race at Slovakia Ring, where he had the right amount of aggression and passed his opponents immediately after the start. Sometimes he has a bad start and ends up fighting with slower drivers because of it. But he gets better and better with every race and this season proves it, so I’m happy about that,” added Fulín.
