Three-time European touring car champion Petr Fulín secured pole position for the first race at Autodrom Most. TCR Eastern Europe points leader Bartosz Groszek is going to start from fourth, Petr Semerád will be starting from the back after an accident.
Fulín, with a Cupra, was dominant during yesterday’s free practices and he also kept up his pace in qualifying. He was the only driver to finish in under one minute and forty seconds. Nobody could get close to his lap time of 1:39.701. Fulín took pole position with a half-second margin from Sebastian Steibel, driving another Cupra. It’s the best qualifying result so far for the German driver from the Steibel Motorsport team.
Fulín’s teammate Petr Čížek is also satisfied with his result. He scored one point for third place in qualifying, although he lost his mathematical chance for the title. Now it’s just between leader Bartosz Groszek, who will be starting from fourth, and Petr Semerád, who will be starting from the back after an unfortunate accident with Vít Smejkal. They made contact not long after the beginning of the qualification and both came into the pits with damaged cars. They were not able to continue and didn’t set any time. So the fight for the championship has gotten really complicated.
Drivers and team owners Václav Janík, with a Hyundai, and Radim Adámek, with an Audi, will start from the third row. The following row belongs to the Rzepecki brothers, Adam and Tomasz, from the Basenhurt A&T Racing Team. The ninth fastest was Žarko Knego in a Cupra.
The start of the first race will be at 15:20.
