Jáchym Galáš decided to move out from the touring car racing and is looking forward to new challenges behind the wheel of the Lamborghini. Let’s take this opportunity to remember his great win at Hungaroring after the start from the last place.
Galáš arrived to Hungaroring with his team mate Maťo Homola with Hyundai Elantra´s. Two drivers from Janík Motorsport were supposed to try out the cars before their full programme at TCR Europe. But immediately they were favourites for victory. The qualified second and third for the opening race of the season. They didn´t want to make a fuss out of it and Galáš said after the qualifying: “This weekend is all about testing and preparing the car for the Portimão race in the TCR Europe championship, so the result isn’t really important.”
But the first race didn´t last long for Czech driver. Contact between Bartosz Groszek, Jáchym Galáš, and Milovan Vesnić in the second turn resulted into the suspension damage in Galáš’s Hyundai and retired. That meant, he had to start from the last place in the second race. And what a performance he showed!
He gradually moved forward, overtaking one driver after another. Meanwhile Homola battled with Vuković for the lead, but he made a contact with Vuković, who then dropped into fourth place. Galáš was behind them during the fight and thought, that second place after their incident will be final result. However winner Homola was immediately penalised for the accident with Vuković and Galáš inherited the win. From last to first! “It was really nice to move from last place to first place during the race,” said eventual winner Jáchym Galáš.
