The second round of TCR Eastern Europe promises to be an exciting event with a large starting field. Exactly 20 cars have signed up to race at Hungaroring, marking the highest number in the championship’s history.
Hungaroring is set to provide a thrilling weekend for touring car fans, with many battles and overtaking maneuvers expected, especially in the second race, where there will be, as is tradition, reverse grid positions.
There’s no doubt that the favourite for the win is Maťo Homola from the Orlen Janík Motorsport team. However, he will face even tougher competition than at Oschersleben, not to mention his teammates Adam Kout and Oschersleben race 2 winner Carlo Czepiel, both driving Hyundai Elantras. Swiss team Vuković Motorsport returns to TCR Eastern Europe with upgraded Renault Megane TCRs. Milenko Vuković will undoubtedly strive for the highest possible position, and his son Milan, despite limited TCR experience, showed promising performances last year.
Vít Smejkal had to miss the opening round due to health issues with his back, but the second round should mark the start of his season with Cupra. This means that Petr Čížek won’t be the sole representative of the Expres Auto Racing Team.
Austrian racing team Wimmer Werk Motorsport is another new addition to the field. Although the team originally planned to enter two cars, the only driver in TCR Eastern Europe at Hungaroring will be Philipp Dietrich with Cupra.
Tobias Poschik, Sebastian Steibel, and Radim Adámek will represent the Aditis Racing team, and from the first two drivers, we can expect a fight for the top 5 positions. Mertel Motorsport’s Rene Kircher and Davit Kajaia should also be contenders, as both finished in solid positions at Oschersleben.
Fullinrace Academy has made a change in their line-up. Carol Wittke will remain behind the wheel, while this time, his teammate will be Petr Fulín Jr.
Žarko Knego aims to secure another point finish, while Giacomo Ghermandi hopes to score points with his Audi RS3 LMS. Ivars Vallers, with the same car, and Adam Rzepecki, with an older generation Audi, also have their sights set on points, as does Sebastian Kolakowski with his Honda Civic.
The first race of the weekend will take place on Saturday at 16:20, with the second race scheduled for Sunday at 10:40.
