Italian driver Antonio Citera made his debut in TCR Eastern Europe at the season opener at Oschersleben. Although he has a limited racing program with the RTM Motorsport team due to a busy schedule, he also entered the race at the Red Bull Ring, where we talked to him about his racing with the Honda Civic TCR.
Antonio Citera is racing with an older generation of the Honda Civic TCR FK7, which means he is not competing for overall wins, but for podium finishes in the Trophy class of TCR Eastern Europe. He finished third and second at Oschersleben and repeated the same results at the Red Bull Ring.
„I’m happy to be part of this championship because the field is very strong. It’s nice to see good racing and fair play fights. The TCR Eastern Europe events are amazing, and the organization is great, as I can compare it with other series where I have competed. Everyone here is nice, and the atmosphere is relaxed, which makes it easy to speak with other drivers,“ said Citera moments before the second race at the Red Bull Ring.
„The track is fabulous. It’s one of the nicest circuits in Europe, and I’m happy to be here,“ continued Citera, who scored third place in the second race with his Honda. „I have driven a few TCR cars, and I can say that the Honda is one of the nicest cars. To be honest, I don’t have too much experiences, but for me, the Honda is amazing. Of course, I’m slower compared to the newer cars, and since I lack racing kilometers with it, I’m still finding the limits of the Honda. I would like to win races, but I’m old enough and humble enough to say that it’s not possible,“ explained Citera, who is now looking forward to the next race at Slovakia Ring.
„I was there seven years ago and had a big accident there. Over the years, I wasn’t ready to go back, and I had a lot of respect for the track. But now I’m prepared to go there and finish what I started,“ smiled Citera.
