Dušan Borković took the victory also in the first weekend race at Slovakia Ring. The rookie Sandro Soubek finished on the fantastic second place during his debut and Dušan Kouřil jr. was third.
The winning streak of Dušan Borković wasn’t stopped in Race 1 of the Slovakia Ring round. After start from pole position, Borković dominated the first battle of this weekend and took another lights-to-flag triumph.
„It was a hard race. It was too hot. I tried to go fast from the beginning and I didn´t want to make a mistake. I did so and I was increasing my lead during the race. In the end, I just checked it. I kept it without problems and won,“ said winner Borković in the finish.
Although Borković was unchallenged in the lead during the race, the fight for the second place was more dramatic. In Lap 1, the second-best qualifier from yesterday Sandro Soubek lost his starting position. Jáchym Galáš overtook him and it was the GT2 Motorsport driver, who drove on the second place in the opening phase.
But eighteen minutes to go, Galáš made a mistake and dropped to the eighth place. Thanks to that error, Soubek returned to the second and Kouřil jr. went to the third place.
After that, Soubek kept the second position for a long time. But in the last meters of the race, Kouřil passed him and eventually it was the Czech driver, who took the silver. Kouřil also won among juniors.
„I have to thank the team very much. Compared to Grobnik, the car is really great. Last laps were really close, but I hoped I could do it. In the last lap, I was able to overtake,“ said Kouřil jr.
Soubek had to settle with the third place. But he didn’t have a reason to be sad, if we consider it was a first race in TCR Eastern Europe for him.
It’s worth mentioning also the performance of Szymon Jablonski. The Polish junior finished on the fourth place. In the end, Jáchym Galáš finished on the fifth position. The returnee Jakub Wyszomirski was sixth, Bence Boldizs was seventh, Carol Wittke was eighth, Petr Čížek was ninth and the tenth Gábor Kismarty-Lechner scored one point.
The two drivers didn’t finish – Michal Makeš and Žarko Knego.
Race 2 will take place tomorrow at 13.10 CEST. The drivers will start according to their second fastest times from qualifying.
