Giacomo Ghermandi of MM Motorsport set the fastest time in qualifying for the second round of TCR Eastern Europe at Salzburgring, becoming the only driver to break the one-minute-and-25-second barrier.

With this being the second race weekend of the season, success ballast is starting to play a key role at the high-speed Salzburgring circuit. Despite carrying 30 kilograms of ballast, Ghermandi secured pole position in his Honda Civic.

He will share the front row with Martin Kadlečík of Aditis Racing, whose Audi RS3 is also carrying 30 kilograms of ballast.

Championship leader Adam Kout from Hyundai Janík Motorsport qualified third in his Hyundai Elantra, alongside Kadlečík’s teammate Bartosz Groszek. Kout is carrying 40 kilograms of success ballast, while Groszek has 30 kilograms.

Petr Čížek, driving a Cupra Leon for Expres Racing Team, will start fifth, with Ivars Vallers in an Audi RS3 for LV Racing lining up sixth. Jiří Zbožínek, also from Hyundai Janík Motorsport, qualified seventh and will start alongside fellow Czech driver and Petr Semerád from Expres Auto Racing, who returned to TCR Eastern Europe this weekend.

A special mention goes to Žarko Knego’s mechanic, who did an excellent job repairing the Hyundai Elantra after Friday’s crash. Thanks to their efforts, the Croatian driver was able to set the ninth-fastest time.
