Maťo Homola will be starting from pole position in front of his home crowd at Slovakia Ring. The second fastest competitor was his teammate Petr Semerád, so the Hyundai / Janík Motorsport team locked in the front row with Hyundai Elantra cars.
The fifth round of TCR Eastern Europe is just another one-off event for Homola, who regularly competes in the TCR Europe championship. But he and the team are taking advantage of the chance to test their Hyundai Elantra and race here at the same time. Homola knows Slovakia Ring very well, as shown during the qualifying. He set the fastest time at 2:11.064. His teammate Petr Semerád, who had started with an Elantra for the first time, came in second, just 1.340 seconds behind.
Another debutant driving behind the wheel of an Elantra is Levente Losonczy, who is starting in the colours of Aggressive Team Italia. He showed great speed and finished in third, a mere 0.064 seconds behind Semerád. Losonczy will be starting from the second row, next to championship leader Bartosz Groszek in an Audi.
The third row belongs to the Cupras of Petr Čížek and Žarko Knego. The fourth Hyundai car in the field, this time an i30N TCR model, will start from the fourth row, thanks to Václav Janík. Next to him will be Sebastian Steibel with a Cupra.
The ninth fastest was Radim Adámek in his newest Audi. We will see him in the fifth row, next to the VW Golf of Tomasz Rzepecki, who was a half-second faster than his brother Adam, starting from eleventh position in an Audi.
Vít Smejkal, in a Cupra, debuted in the championship at Red Bull Ring, making Slovakia Ring his second event. He will be starting from twelfth position, in front of Robert Pravdič with an Audi.
