Team Hyundai Janík Motorsport has conquered the qualification for the opening race at the Hungaroring round of TCR Eastern Europe. All three drivers with Hyundai Elantra’s occupied the first three positions, with Maťo Homola in first, followed by Carlo Czepiel and Adam Kout.
Qualifying was interrupted by red flags, but it didn’t change the outcome of the session. Homola was fastest from the beginning and kept improving his lap times during his drive. He was followed closely by newcomer Czepiel, who is fast gaining experience with the TCR car. He studied Homola’s drive and was able to move up to the second place in the closing stage of qualifying. Kout dropped to third place, and due to the traffic on the track, he wasn’t able to put together a fast lap before the end of the session.
A record-breaking field with 20 TCR cars made a nice show from the qualification. Behind the Hyundai Janík Motorsport trio, team mates from Mertel Motorsport with Honda Civic TCR – Rene Kircher and Davit Kajaia finished fourth and fifth.
Returnee Vukovic Motorsport with green Renault Meganes is going to start from the sixth and eighth places. Milan Vukovic had a similar pace to Mertel Motorsport drivers, and it will be interesting to watch their battle in the race. Milan’s father, Milenko had to accept the pleasure fact that his son is already faster than him, will start eight.
Petr Čížek, as the best driver with Cupra, squeezed between the Vukovic family for seventh place, while Giacomo Ghermandi became the best Audi representative in qualifying, finishing in ninth place. Petr Fulín Jr. with Cupra concluded the TOP10 positions.
