Petr Čížek from the Expres Auto Racing team has wrapped up another successful season. Competing in a Cupra Competition TCR, he fought hard for fourth place in the final standings, ultimately clinching it by a single point ahead of René Kircher.
Petr, how would you rate your 2024 season in TCR Eastern Europe?
Overall, I’d say I’m satisfied with my final position, though the individual race results could have been better. The top three drivers were a class apart, and the rest of us were really scrapping it out for that fourth spot.
How did your second-place finish at your home track in Most affect the team’s motivation for the rest of the season?
Most is always going to be special for us, and getting a podium finish there was definitely a huge boost for the whole team. It was a shame that my team mate Vít Smejkal couldn’t add any points due to the collision, though.
Which race of the 2024 season stands out most in your memory, and why?
I can’t pinpoint just one—every race weekend has its own unique challenges. Most is our home track, and for me more than anyone. Then there was Salzburgring, which was really fascinating. I’d never been there before, so I had to race smart because we knew René would be quick, and we were focused on holding onto that fourth place. So, I’d say those two stand out.
Was there a specific moment when you had to push right to the limit, or even beyond it?
Honestly, with my driving skills, I feel like I’m racing on my limits every weekend. I only started racing at 40, without any prior experience. I just want to keep up with the young, talented guys out there.
What was the most intense moment of the 2024 season for you?
As I mentioned earlier, it was definitely Most. It’s my home, quite literally, so that’s always intense for me. Then there was Salzburgring, which was crucial for our overall position.
What do you think of the new tracks on the calendar, like Balaton and Salzburgring?
I’m always happy to see new circuits added to the championship. It gives us a chance to grow and learn new tracks. Balaton is completely new, while Salzburgring has that classic, historical vibe. They both offer something interesting for a driver.
What are your plans for the 2025 season?
If everything goes well, we’d like to continue in TCR Eastern Europe, and maybe take part in a few one-off TCR events across Europe.
