René Martinek will participate in TCR Eastern Europe round at Slovakiaring at the end of August. As before, he will compete with Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR car of his own team.
The TCR Eastern Europe grid will grow for the penultimate round of the 2021 season that will take place at Slovakiaring during the weekend from 20th to 22nd of August. René Martinek confirmed he will participate in this round. The Austrian driver will sit behind the wheel of Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR car. He will defend the colours of his own team. It will not be his debut in TCR Eastern Europe at Slovakiaring. He already did three starts in this championship in last two years.
The main goal will be to enjoy the racing weekend for Martinek: „I completed my last race in TCR Eastern Europe at Automotodrom Brno last season. Slovakiaring is a nice circuit. I´m just driving for fun. Result in the race is not important for me and I will not interfere to the battles for the championship title,“ says the Austrian driver.
The best result Martinek achieved in TCR Eastern Europe is sixth place. He took this position in both races at Automotodrom Brno in 2019. It was his first race weekend in TCR Eastern Europe. But he was able to score point also in 2020 season. He finished 10th in Race 2 at Slovakiaring. It means he has fond memories to the circuit in Orechová Potôň.
Except for Martinek, we will see also the ongoing battle for the championship title. Tomáš Pekař will arrive to Slovakia as a championship leader. But Carpek Service driver leads only by six points ahead of second Michal Makeš. In addition, mathematical chances for the title are still living for third Sebastian Steibel, fourth Carol Wittke, fifth Milovan Vesnić, sixth Bartosz Groszek, seventh Tomasz Rzepecki and eighth Lukasz Stolarczyk.
