After placing sixth overall in TCR Eastern Europe last year, Giacomo Ghermandi from Bologna confirms his participation in the championship by joining the prestigious partner team of JAS Motorsport.
The challenge in TCR Eastern Europe is renewed for Giacomo Ghermandi, with the goal of continuing his ascent to the top of the rankings. To embark on this new adventure, the fast ‚Jack‘ will join forces with the MM Motorsport team, a Bergamo-based outfit with extensive experience in the world of Touring Car racing and a point reference for JAS Motorsport, Honda’s official partner.
Ghermandi will make his debut in a car of the Japanese manufacturer, participating in the six stages of the calendar at the wheel of the Honda Civic Type R TCR, lined up by the team led by Emanuele Alborghetti and Giovanna Aiello. For the Lombardy-based team, it will also be their debut in the TCR Eastern European championship, after the numerous successes achieved in recent years that have allowed them to claim the title of vice-champions of 2023 in the TCR Italy and Coppa Italia Turismo.
After last year’s positive experience in the category at the wheel of the Audi RS3 LMS, Ghermandi will now embark on a new challenge in an extremely competitive environment that promises to provide a certainly balanced competition among the various contenders at the start.
“I’m really happy and proud to race in the colors of MM Motorsport. It will be a great challenge, especially since I will come to Hungary having to familiarize myself with the car and without having been able to do any testing so far, given that the timing has not permitted it. In any case, we are aware that at Balaton it will be a weekend of apprenticeship and useful for improving our knowledge of each other, even if my ultimate goal is clearly to raise the bar even higher and improve on last year’s placing,” says Ghermandi.
„We can’t wait to start this new challenge in an international context,“ adds Emanuele Alborghetti. “Giacomo is a very fast driver, and I’m sure that during the year he will be able to realize his very high potential,“ he commented. „The TCR Eastern Europe is the fourth championship in which we will be involved this year; our 2024 is definitely challenging, and we wanted to add a challenge in a territory that is new to us and yet to be discovered. A bet that energizes us, and we can’t wait to face it.“
