Italian driver Antonio Citera is heading to TCR Eastern Europe series with RTM team, led by Rene Martinek. Although they haven´t committed to the full season, Citera is going to race Honda Civic TCR in as many races as possible.
Antonio, what is your schedule for the upcoming season?
I will compete in the series and participate in every race possible. Unfortunately, because of Rene’s schedule we will not be able to participate in all the races.
What is your story with RTM team and Rene Martinek? You work with him for several season.
I know Rene since 2013 and I am part of his team since 2015. As we have not only worked successfully together but are also friends, it was no question for me when he told me, that he had a vacant driver’s seat.
You have been driving Mercedes AMG GT4, also Aston Martin GT4 or Renault Clio in the past. What brought you back to the TCR car? What do you think about this type of the car and racing compared to Gran Turismo racing?
I enjoy the TCR car a lot, it brings me the most joy in driving. GT4 cars are very technically supported. And with the TCR car you get a pruritic driving experience. The car is not thinking for me, I have to do all the work. That’s why I am coming back to TCR. It is the closest to old school racing and the cars are still purebred.
Does it mean you are focusing on Touring Cars, or will you also race with GT4 car?
I am keeping both series in mind. But I am definitely competing in the TCR races.
Let´s go back to very competitive TCR Eastern Europe championship. Do you have any goals for each race?
I haven’t driven a TCR car for three years now. The competition is very strong, and I have been watching all the experienced drivers. I am trying to be geared up for every race as good as possible.
There is a new addition to this year´s calendar – Oschersleben. Do you know the track? What do you think about it?
Yes, the track is very familiar to me, that’s where everything has started. I think the track is beautiful and technically very demanding. The fast changing of the weather in Oschersleben is challenging the driver and the car.
Is there a chance that you will be competing in more TCR races if the things go very well? Or is the deal done and complete for 2023?
First things first. The series have to start. In the end we as team will decide what the future holds.
