René Kircher entered the TCR Eastern Europe championship with Mertel Motorsport. For him and the team, the series was new. Although Kircher had experience with touring cars in the past and proved his speed with highly competitive results, including two wins and a fight for the championship, he eventually became the vice-champion and won the Junior standings.
René, how do you evaluate your season? You achieved a lot in your debut year in TCR Eastern Europe.
My season was great. I achieved my main goal of winning the Junior Championship, but it also felt great to fight for wins and podium finishes.
I assume you are still learning and gaining new experiences. What did you learn this season?
I had a new car and a new team this season, so I had to learn to deal with it, and it worked quite well, I think. I also had to learn a lot of new tracks because I mostly drove in Germany in the last years.
Before the Slovakia Ring, you were very close to Homola in terms of points. Did you start thinking about the title in TCR EE, or were you focused on the Junior title?
For sure, I started to think about it, but as you said, my main goal was the Junior title, so my focus was more on it.
Which event or moment from this season has stuck in your memory?
For sure, my first victory at the Hungaroring. I had never been there before, so it was a special moment for me.
What would you like to achieve in your career? What are your long-term plans?
My goal is to stay in motorsport as long as possible and become a factory driver one day.
And do you have plans for next year? Can you give us a hint where we might see you?
What I can say is that I am going to stay with Mertel Motorsport for next season, which I am super proud of. More will come later.
