TCR World Ranking Final set for new date, customer racing focus and FIA title

The TCR World Ranking Final, which was originally scheduled to take place in March 2024, is set to move to a new date, as well as being recognised with an FIA title. The change in date has been driven by the need to avoid holding two finals in the same year in an already packed calendar.

With WSC and the FIA working together this year promoting the new Kumho FIA TCR World Tour, which gets underway at Vallelunga in April, it’s been decided to move the event, ensuring there isn’t an excess of annual touring car competitions in 2024, with the third edition of the FIA Motorsport Games also taking place in Valencia in October.

The rescheduled event will be dedicated entirely to customer drivers from the global TCR pyramid, with the entry open only to competitors from the regional and national TCR series of 2024.

Additionally, all drivers which had already registered for the Portimão event will receive an automatic entry for the new date.

The new venue and date – in the last third of the year – will be confirmed soon, with the winners invited to celebrate their success at the FIA Prize-Giving gala in December.

WSC president Marcello Lotti said: “We’ve made the decision to move the date based on a series of logical factors. When it became clear we would be hosting two ‘world finals’ in the same year, we had to look at what was best to resolve that, both from a sporting perspective and for our competitors, and moving the event for us makes the most sense.

With the FIA Motorsport Games also taking place this year, having three annual major touring car events doesn’t make sense, and we can now put our full focus on holding our first TCR final, which will now come with an FIA title.

I wish to thank the Portuguese ASN and the Autódromo do Algarve for their support, and for understanding our decision.”
