The second half of the 2021 TCR Eastern Europe season will start in Grobnik, Croatia during the upcoming weekend. And the starting grid promises a great spectacle.
After more than one month long break, TCR Eastern Europe is back. The fourth round of the 2021 season is on the schedule during the upcoming weekend. The next battle for points will take place at Automotodrom Grobnik in Croatia.
The Mičánek Motorsport powered by Buggyra driver Michal Makeš arrives to Croatia, where he made his TCR Eastern Europe debut last year, as a championship leader. The Czech driver won two races so far and leads the championship standings with 123 points on his account.
But it won´t be easy for Makeš at Automotodrom Grobnik. His countryman Tomáš Pekař is only nine points behind him in the championship standings. He achieved three victories this season, so one more victory than Makeš. Pekař has good memories of Grobnik from last year. He raced there for the first time then and won both races of Clio Cup category.
Except for Makeš and Pekař, we have to reckon also with other drivers. The ESET Race Star supported driver Sebastian Steibel, Carol Wittke, the first ever TCR Eastern Europe champion Milovan Vesnić and Lukasz Stolarczyk took podium results in the previous races of the 2021 season as well, so they are also able to join the fight for top positions. Bartosz Groszek will be another man to watch. After his stunning debut in Poznan, where he scored one victory, he will again race with support of ESET Race Star project.
Among other drivers, the local driver Žarko Knego definitely wants to show himself in a good light too. The Croatian driver collected eight points this season and he is on 14th place of the championship standings now. But in previous two years, he was able to score points at his home circuit. In 2019, he was 5th in Race 1 and took 6th place in Race 2. Last year, he achieved points thanks to 10th place in Race 1.
