Croatian driver Žarko Knego returned to the podium in the TCR Eastern Europe series at Autodrom Most. The Auto Klub Dubrovnik driver secured third place in the second sprint at the Czech circuit.
The weekend at Most began with Knego qualifying in fifth place. Race 1 proved to be eventful for him, as he spent much of the time battling with local driver Petr Čížek, who knows the track inside out. Knego attempted to overtake Čížek and regain fifth place, but despite being faster, he couldn’t find the gap to pass.
The reverse grid for the second race didn’t really help Knego, as he again started from fifth place. However, this time he had drivers in front of him who had finished behind him in the first race, presenting a golden opportunity.
Knego managed to move up to third place behind eventual winner Adam Kout and, once again, Petr Čížek. Although Žarko was slightly faster than Čížek, there weren’t many opportunities to challenge him.
“It was a bit of a strange race, not much racing actually. We had a good start, some overtaking, some aggression from all the drivers. Everyone was quite keen to move forward. Eventually, there were two safety cars, so not much action on track, but in the laps when we were racing, there was quite a lot of action. So, overall, it was fine race,” said Knego, who had last achieved a podium in the final round of the TCR Eastern Europe last season at Automotodrom Brno.
“I like Czech tracks; they suit me quite well. I like this country, and I like the tracks over there, so I’m very, very excited to finally be back on the podium. I hope to repeat this podium in Brno this year and maybe even go one step further,” said Knego about his prospects in Brno.
