Compared to the 2021, season 2022 was a lot of harder for Sebastian Steibel. But he gave his all at every race weekend and hoped for better results with his old Cupra TCR. And finally, in the last possible opportunity, he scored podium finish.
“It’s hard to fight at the front with my old car,” said Steibel, who was racing with same Cupra TCR as year before for his family team Steibel Motorsport. First chance for the great results came at Poznań in the second race. Steibel started from the pole-position, but when the red lights went off, he stalled the engine. German driver dropped to the last position as other drivers passed him. Although he managed to move forward and finish sixth, it was a disappointment for him.
Before the last round of the 2022 season at Autodrom Most, he sat seventh in the driver´s championship, two positions lower compare to the 2021. But Most circuit suit him really well and after fifth position in first race, he added third place in the second one. His first podium finish of the season. “I was really happy about the podium finish. I have to say that the whole weekend went very well. It started with a great qualifying and ended with a podium,” said Steibel, who moved up from seventh to fifth in the driver´s championship and matched his result from 2021. So it wasn´t as unfortunate season as it look liked and Sebastian Steibel was satisfied again: “Overall, I’m happy with my season. I had opportunities to attain good results and, in addition, the season was also very nice, as I continued to develop friendships with other drivers and teams!”
