Wittke sees promising future for TCR Eastern Europe

Read this interview with Carol Wittke, a Fullinrace Academy driver, as he reveals his goals for the 2020 season and thoughts about the series.

Carol, your first race weekend of the season at Grobnik was a bit more complicated, as you had to start from the last position on the grid into both races. Yet, you finished 8th in the Race 2 and took 4 points. How would you sum up the weekend in Croatia?

Unfortunately, we had a puncture in the qualifying and I couldn’t set a lap time. That meant we had to start from the last place into both races. However, I’m happy with our performance. We were able to make it from 18th place to the 8th position and grab our first points. I think our pace would even allow us to finish even better if he had a better start position.

What are your ambitions for the rest of the season? Especially for the upcoming round at Slovakia Ring? Have they changed after the opening round of the season? And do you think you can even make it to the podium or maybe even win a race?

The starting grid is much bigger and much more competitive. We have a lot of good drivers here. My minimum goal is to be in the TOP 10 and any really good results would be amazing.

Your teammate Petr Čížek is racing with a brand-new Cupra León Competición TCR car this year. Do you think he might have an advantage over you because of it?

It’s way too soon to tell. I think that the car is very good, but you need to do a lot of testing and work on the setup. Then, we’ll see, whether he has an advantage.

Don’t you regret that you don’t have this car as well?

Not at all! We completely reworked our old Cupra over the winter, so we think, that we’re definitely competitive.

Is there any chance that the Fullinrace Academy team might give you a Cupra León Competición TCR in the future?

We’re working on getting it for the 2021 season, but nothing is official yet.

How do you rate the TCR Eastern Europe championship? What future does it have?

I think this series is evolving very well. The organisers are doing a very good job. This championship is going to grow even more. In Grobnik, the TCR Eastern Europe series had even a bigger grid than this weekend’s opening round of TCR Germany series at Lausitzring.

What are your career long-term goals? Is there any championship that you would like to do in the future?

My only goal is to develop myself, become better and to win together with the Fullinrace Academy team. Let’s wait and see how long will that take.
