Following a remarkable debut last season, Mertel Motorsport is returning to the TCR Eastern Europe series for 2024, bringing even more competition with an expanded lineup. We talked with team manager Kurt Treml about the new season prospects.
The team continues its successful partnership with Honda, fielding three Honda Civic Type R FK7. Team manager Kurt Treml expressed full satisfaction with the collaboration, stating: “We are satisfied with Honda and their support, no need to change!”
Mertel Motorsport is pleased to confirm that drivers René Kircher and Davit Kajaia will continue racing with the team this year. Their familiarity with the circuits and previous experiences are expected to provide a solid foundation for the team’s performance. “We are happy that we could renew the contracts of both drivers. This year they know most of the circuits and can use the experience from the past,” said Treml.
Mertel Motorsport is also welcoming a new driver, Jorden Dolischka, to the team. A promising young woman, Dolischka has transitioned from karting and is ready to take the next step in her racing career. “Jorden has shown in a test her talent and we think to give her a chance. She has done karting for some years and now it’s time to make the next step. TCR is the right choice. We will give her time and support to learn step by step,” commented Treml
With the addition of a third car, Treml believes the expansion will be beneficial for the team. “It’s clear that we have a straight plan for Rene and David, Jorden is young and must learn from the others.”
“Our drivers have experience and know the circuits, no extra tests only the possibilities in front the events,” Treml stated, noting that the team is well-prepared to tackle the new challenges, including the unknown Balaton Park track.
Addressing the competitive nature of TCR Eastern Europe, Treml acknowledges the intensity of the championship: “The TCR Eastern Europe is a very hard and competitive championship. Many drivers are able to win a race; to fight for the championship you must score points in every race. A failure means you are out of the fight for the title,” Treml concluded.
