The 2025 TCR Eastern Europe season has reached its penultimate round, with the championship battle between Adam Kout and Martin Kadlečík heading for a dramatic climax. At Automotodrom Brno, it was Aditis Racing’s Kadlečík who stole the show, saving his best for the final laps.
Kout from Hyundai Janík Motorsport arrived in Brno with a 20-point advantage. At the previous round at Slovakia Ring, he had powered his Hyundai Elantra to a double victory, while a frustrated Kadlečík had to settle for two runner-up finishes. But in Brno, the tables turned – even if it didn’t look that way at first.
Kout dominated Friday’s qualifying, with Kadlečík’s Audi RS3 trailing by six tenths of a second. Another four tenths back sat his teammate Bartosz Groszek, and it seemed the top three was set. But in the dying moments, Kout’s teammate Jiří Zbožínek pulled off a stunning lap to grab second place. That locked out the front row for Hyundai Janík Motorsport, with Aditis Racing lining up on row two. Behind them came Žarko Knego, Petr Čížek, Ivars Vallers, Vít Smejkal and Radoslav Obrtal.
But Kout’s perfect weekend began to unravel before the race had even started. On the way to the grid, Obrtal collided with him. While the Slovak’s journey ended there, Kout made it to pole position with a damaged car. Clearing Obrtal’s car delayed the start, giving Kout’s mechanics just enough time for a patch-up repair. His Hyundai was far from 100 percent and although he managed to lead the race, he couldn’t shake off his pursuers. For a time, Zbožínek played rear gunner, but once he was overtaken by the charging Kadlečík, the battle for victory was on. In the penultimate lap, Kadlečík swept past Kout and that was the decisive move.
Sunday’s race delivered an even bigger dose of overtakes and drama. Vít Smejkal lined up on pole alongside Žarko Knego, with Petr Čížek and Bartosz Groszek behind them, followed by Zbožínek and Kout, while Kadlečík and Vallers shared the fourth row.
The reversed grid is always a recipe for drama, but what unfolded between Čížek, who launched into turn 1 perfectly, and Groszek, Kadlečík, Kout and Zbožínek was top-class touring car action.
Kout eventually fought his way into the lead, but the earlier battles had taken their toll and his tyres began to fade. Kadlečík running second sensed his chance. He tried in the penultimate lap but was fended off. The decisive moment came in the final lap, through the opening left-right sequence. Kadlečík forced his way into the lead, took the win, and slashed his deficit to just eight points.
The stage is now set for 2025 season finale at Balaton Park. You won’t want to miss it.
