Entry criteria and Event format of TCR World Ranking Final were unveiled

The planned TCR World Ranking final event has unveiled details of the event and the criteria for the entry.

1) Entry Criteria

The top 15 drivers in the KUMHO TCR World Tour drivers’ standings following the ninth round at Macau will qualify directly for the Qualifying Race and the Final Race of the TCR World Ranking Final.

For the Play-off Races, the following criteria will be used for entry:
Priority List 1 – The top 45 drivers in the KUMHO TCR World Ranking as of the published ranking on October 4th 2023, not counting any drivers who are within the top 15 of the KUMHO TCR World Tour drivers’ standings at this time.
Priority List 2 – Any drivers classified between 46th and 65th in the KUMHO TCR World Ranking in the published ranking on October 4th, not counting any of the top 15 drivers of the KUMHO TCR World Tour within these positions.
Priority List 3 – 30 Wild Card drivers which will be selected by a committee of representatives from WSC Group and the TCR car manufacturers.
All Wild Card drivers must be classified within the KUMHO TCR World Ranking.

Drivers in Priority Lists 1 and 2 must confirm their participation in the TCR World Ranking Final by October 31st 2023. The participation of Wild Card drivers is confirmed by the moment they are selected by the committee.

The Final Entry List of the event will be drawn up following the aforesaid priorities, with drivers from Priority Lists 2 and 3 filling the positions left available by those drivers that have not confirmed their participation.

2) Event format

The TCR World Ranking Final will be run across three days with the participation of the first 15 drivers in the KUMHO World Tour final classification and the 45 drivers from the Priority Lists 1, 2 and 3 who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Ranking.

All entries which have not qualified for the event from the 2023 KUMHO TCR World Tour drivers’ standings will participate in the Play-off Races which will take place on Day 2.

The 45 drivers from the KUMHO TCR World Ranking will be split by a draw into three groups of 15: A, B and C. The draw will take place before the event, with live streaming on the TCR social networks

Day 1
There will be one Free Practice session for the 15 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour. There will be Free Practice and Qualifying sessions for the 45 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Ranking.

Day 2
There will be two Free Practice sessions and one Qualifying session for the 15 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour.

There will be three Play-off Races between the groups; each race will be 20 minutes + 1 lap in length. Two groups will race off against each other in each Race, creating fields of up to 30 cars.

The grid of each Play-off Race will be set based on the Qualifying times of each group, with the fastest car of the two groups starting from Pole Position, and the next group’s quickest driver will start from second position. The grid will continue to alternate in this pattern, with each group effectively forming a line down each side of the grid. There will be at least a three-hour turnaround between each race.

If there’s a change in weather conditions between Day 1 and Day 2, there will be an additional warm up session of 15 minutes on the morning of Day 2.

– Play-off Race 1, Group A v Group B (20 minutes + 1 lap)
– KUMHO TCR World Tour Free Practice 2 (30 minutes)
– Play-off Race 2, Group B v Group C (20 minutes + 1 lap)
– KUMHO TCR World Tour Free Practice 3 (30 minutes)
– Play-off Race 3, Group C v Group A (20 minutes + 1 lap)
– KUMHO TCR World Tour Qualifying (30 minutes)

The top 15 drivers according to the Play-off classification after all the three races according to the following points scale will progress to the Finals.

Qualifying points: 1st 3 pts; 2nd 2 pts; 3rd 1 pt
Race points: 1st 25 pts; 2nd 21 pts; 3rd 18 pts; 4th 15 pts; 5th 13 pts; 6th 11 pts; 7th 9 pts; 8th 8 pts; 9th 7 pts; 10th 6 pts; 11th 5 pts; 12th 4 pts; 13th 3 pts; 14th 2 pts; 15th 1 pt.
Fastest lap: 1 pt

No points for finishing position will be awarded if the driver is not classified in the race result.

In the case of a dead heat, the following criteria will be used to determine the order:
– Best race result
– Best qualifying result
– Fastest lap from the races

Day 3
All Final Races will take place on Day 3. If the weather conditions have changed between Day 2 and Day 3, there will be an additional warm up session of 15 minutes, on the morning of Day 3.

There will be three Races:
Qualifying Race (20 minutes + 1 lap)
The grid will be set based on the results of the Qualifying session for the drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour and the results of the three Play-off Races. The line of the grid with pole position will be formed by the drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour, according to the results of the Qualifying session. The other line of the grid will be formed by the drivers who qualified through the Play-off Races, according to the points scored in the Play-off classification.

Repechage Race (15 minutes + 1 lap)
This is reserved for the 30 competitors which were eliminated from the Play-offs. The first four drivers classified in the Race will be admitted to the Final Race.
The grid will be set based on the points scored in the Play-offs, with the dead heat criteria used in the case of equal or no points being scored by the drivers.
Final Race (30 minutes + 1 lap)
The grid will be set based on the results of the Qualifying Race and the first four drivers classified in the Repechage Race will be placed in the positions from 31 to 34.

3) Race numbers

Each driver will be allocated the Race Number corresponding to his/her position in the KUMHO TCR World Ranking in the published ranking on January 10th 2024.

4) Tyres allocation

– 12 new tyres per each of the 45 drivers who qualified for the Play-offs
– 14 new tyres allocated per each of the 15 drivers who qualified through the KUMHO TCR World Tour
– 6 additional tyres per each of the 15 drivers who qualified for the Final races through the Play-offs
– 2 additional tyres per each of the 30 competitors of the Repechage Race
– 2 additional tyres per each of the 4 drivers who qualified for the Final races through the Repechage Race

5) Titles

Three Titles will be awarded in the TCR World Ranking Final.
Drivers’ Champion: to the winner of the Final Race
Teams’ Champion: to the entrant of the Final Race winning car.
Manufacturers’ Champion: it will be awarded according to the points scored by the first six cars of each Manufacturer; all other cars of the same Manufacturer will be transparent.

A Podium Ceremony will be held after the Final Race for the first three drivers classified and representatives of the winning Team and Manufacturer.
A Prize Giving Ceremony will be held in the evening of Day 3.

6) Prize Money

The value of 500,000 € in tyres for the 2024 season will be equally split among the 15 drivers who qualified for the Final through the Play-off Races.
