The 2026 TCR Eastern Europe season reaches its climax at the Hungaroring this weekend, with a battle for the drivers’ championship still to be decided. Meanwhile, Hyundai Janík Motorsport is in a strong position to claim another teams’ title.
Just like in 2025, this season has been dominated by Martin Kadlečík from Aditis Racing and Adam Kout from Hyundai Janík Motorsport. The two Czech drivers have been a class apart throughout the campaign, sharing all nine race victories so far and leaving their rivals unable to reach the top step of the podium.
Kadlečík has won six of the nine races, while Kout has claimed three victories. However, technical setbacks and unfortunate incidents have kept the championship battle remarkably close, with just seven points separating championship leader Kadlečík and his closest challenger Kout heading into the season finale.
With a maximum of 55 points still available over the Hungaroring weekend, the title is far from decided. Each race victory is worth 25 points, while three points are awarded for pole position in qualifying and one bonus point is available for setting the fastest lap in each of the two races.
What does this mean for the title fight? The championship remains wide open. Kout needs to outscore Kadlečík by at least eight points over the weekend to overturn the deficit. Should the two drivers finish level on points, Kadlečík would take the title thanks to his superior number of race victories.
Kadlečík could even wrap up the championship as early as Saturday’s opening race, provided the results fall in his favour. One possible scenario would see him secure pole position, win Race 1 and set the fastest lap. In that case, a fifth-place finish or worse for Kout, without any qualifying bonus points, would be enough to crown Kadlečík champion with one race still remaining.
However, with only seven points separating the two title contenders, there are numerous mathematical permutations that could decide the championship. The picture should become much clearer after Saturday’s opening race, which could prove decisive in determining who heads into Sunday’s finale with the upper hand.
Meanwhile, the battle for the teams’ championship is also approaching its conclusion. Hyundai Janík Motorsport currently leads Aditis Racing by 86 points, putting the Czech outfit in a commanding position to retain its title. With a maximum of 43 team points available in Sunday’s final race, Hyundai Janík Motorsport could secure the championship as early as Saturday if it outscores Aditis Racing by at least 18 points across qualifying and Race 1.
