The TCR Eastern Europe heads to Salzburgring for the second round of the season. The weekend in Austria will be a little special for the drivers and teams, as the schedule features three races.

The opening round of the season at Automotodrom Grobnik two weeks ago saw Martin Kadlečík´s  winning drives for Aditis Racing. Driving his Audi RS3, he finished first in both races and moved into the lead of the drivers’ standings with 52 points: 50 for the two wins and two additional points for setting the fastest lap in both races. Aditis Racing also leads the teams’ standings thanks to extra points scored by its second driver, Radim Adámek.

Kadlečík therefore arrives at the fast and sweeping Salzburgring as the championship leader, holding a 22 point advantage over Žarko Knego, who drives a Hyundai Elantra for AK Dubrovnik Racing. Knego himself is just one point ahead of Jiří Zbožínek from Hyundai Janík Motorsport.

Zbožínek’s teammate, reigning champion Adam Kout, suffered bad luck at Grobnik and currently sits fifth in the standings with only 15 points, earned for his third place finish in the second race at Grobnik.

The gap between last year’s title rivals Kadlečík and Kout therefore stands at 37 points. However, the season has only just begun, and the title fight is still wide open.

Salzburgring also offers a great opportunity either for Kadlečík to extend his lead or for Kout to close the gap, as three races are scheduled for the weekend. But that certainly does not mean the battle for victory will be limited to those two drivers. Both Žarko Knego and Jiří Zbožínek have the pace to fight for wins, and as we have seen many times in the past at Salzburgring, this circuit punishes even the smallest mistake.

The fight for the trophies is wide open and Salzburgring could deliver some surprise results. Don’t miss the second round of TCR Eastern Europe, which officially begins on Saturday with free practice, followed by qualifying after lunch and Race 1 in the late afternoon. Sunday will be dedicated entirely to racing, with Race 2 scheduled for 11:15 and the special Race 3 at 14:25.
