The TCR Eastern Europe championship heads to Autodrom Most this weekend for the Racing Journal Speed Fest, a weekend full of racing action. The championship fight is still in its early stages, with only two rounds completed and four more to go.
Most is home ground for many drivers on the grid, including the two highest-placed racers in the current standings – Adam Kout and Martin Kadlečík. Kout, racing for Hyundai Janík Motorsport, leads the championship, while Kadlečík from Aditis Racing is just five points behind. Kadlečík´s teammate Bartosz Groszek is a further six points back, creating a very tight battle at the top. The outcome of this Czech round will be crucial.
And Most is not just important for the leading trio, the drivers behind them are still very much in contention. Italian racer Giacomo Ghermandi from MM Motorsport is 25 points adrift, which isn’t too far considering he is one of only three drivers to have won a race this season.
In fact, nearly everyone in the standings still has a realistic shot at the title. Fifth overall is Ivars Vallers from LV Racing. With 25 points awarded to the winner of each race, two races taking place over the weekend, and additional points available for pole position and fastest lap, it’s impossible to predict how the standings will look after Round 3.
Just behind Vallers sits Žarko Knego from the Auto Klub Dubrovnik team. The Croatian driver finished fourth in the last two races and is highly motivated to move up at least one more place and claim a podium trophy, something he already achieved last year at Most.
Of course, many local fans will be cheering for their home drivers. Besides Kout and Kadlečík, there are three other Czech drivers on the grid. Petr Čížek from Expres Auto Racing is always strong in Most, and this time he will be joined by teammate Vít Smejkal, who returns to racing after a break. Another local name is Jiří Zbožínek, a teammate of Adam Kout, who showed great speed at the previous round in Salzburgring, where he fought for a podium finish.
New additions to the starting list are Slovakian duo Radoslav Obrtal and Peter Szilagyi. They will share a former Expres Auto Racing car Cupra Leon, with each driver taking part in one of the two races.
